It's an utterly helpless feeling to worry that danger is coming and you have no escape or plan to be safe.<br /><br />When my oldest children were one and three, we were living in a mobile home. One morning we woke up to some really spooky weather. The sky was neon green and the clouds were black and tall. We were petrified and felt so guilty because we had these little babies and no plan for safety. We got in our car and drove around until we found a safe public place. Fortunately no tornado came that day, but it taught me a lesson about being too relaxed about safety!desfentonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11468862781679887190noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4780979693195745238.post-2536418857949700332013-05-14T17:04:22.476-04:002013-05-14T17:04:22.476-04:00I love your take on this topic — empowering our ki...I love your take on this topic — empowering our kids to take charge as much as they can in an emergency. That's so important for their self-confidence in feeling prepared, and their ability to function if there's not an adult there to tell them what to do. I never thought about emphasizing getting info firsthand — it's like that game of Telephone; that makes so much sense.Lauren Waynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07500733577920040395noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4780979693195745238.post-83886236772685039702013-05-14T15:11:09.920-04:002013-05-14T15:11:09.920-04:00I totally agree that giving kids some control is i...I totally agree that giving kids some control is important. My oldest gets very nervous about bad weather, but even just knowing the steps to take to stay safe and the signs to watch for do a lot to calm him down.Dionna @ Code Name: Mamahttp://codenamemama.comnoreply@blogger.com
